I am a firm believer that you don’t have to kill your fun in the process of trying to be financially responsible. I’ll be perfectly honest with you, I think that’s why I stayed so financially irresponsible for the majority of my 20’s (hindsight is 20 20 right?). Well, after going back to the drawing board after my failed financial game plan of “play now, suffer later” I discovered the novel concept of financial balance! Eureka! Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too is completely wrong! All you have to do is take a bite of cake (fun) and then the rest is in your hand (financial responsibility and balance). There you have your cake and you’re eating it too! Here are my top five favorite epiphanies!
1 ) Coffee Dates at Starbucks
If you’re anything like me, you love going to hang out with friends. So much that you will find new and creative ways to hang out at any given point in time. Yes, I have been notorious for digging through my couch or pants just so that I can go hear about my friend’s new job or date over coffee. Problem was that it costs money!
Solution? All you have to do is bring your coffee or tea with you from home! Okay, so just hear me out (because it feels a little weird at first). To be fair to the coffee company, buy a coffee mug from them so that you are still giving them business (and come on its free marketing for them) but just bring that cup with you when you go to the coffee shop. Boom problem solved! 🙂
2 ) Going Out to Eat
Okay, so this one is going to take a little more time on your end. Invite people over to your house! Get a big potluck together and have an awesome time!
3 ) Cut the Cord on Cable
Cable bills can be downright outrageous! I’ve heard of people paying as much as $150/month with all the bells and whistles! In this day and age where we are constantly on the go, who got time for 1000 channels anyway? Solution? Grab a subscription to Hulu. It starts out at $7.99/month and you can get your first months free. Problem solved! 🙂

4 ) Bye Bye Fancy Gym Membership
Okay, so don’t get me wrong I am a big proponent of exercising but it doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg (some to the tune of $100/month for cross fit options). What I would suggest is taking a look at what you really enjoy and become an instructor for that. That’s what I did. I absolutely LOVE Zumba! Not only do you not pay for a gym membership but they are paying you to go! 🙂
5 ) Movies
We all know that the movies can be downright expensive. In between the tickets, drinks, popcorn and some even have dinner can run you up a $100 night real quick. My suggestion, Make it a red box right! They typically are $1 per movie and they are new movies!
